Welcome to CoolCane

Q. Isn't sugarcane juice just full of sugar and bad for you?
A. A glass of fresh sugarcane juice has on average 11% to 13% total sugar content. This is less sugar than a glass of orange juice or apple juice and far less sugar than most soft drinks. Fresh sugar cane juice also contains a range of 'living' antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, enzymes and fibre which are all good for you.

Q. How many calories does fresh sugar cane juice have?
A. Fresh sugar cane juice has about the same amount of calories as low fat skim milk. You may be surprised to see sugar cane juice has less calories than orange juice, apple juice and regular milk. Refer to below table.

Q. Will raw sugar cane rot your teeth?
A. The findings of a Master of Dental Science paper from the University of Sydney concluded that consuming raw sugar cane actually has a protective effect against tooth decay. It is the opposite of what most people might think. If you don't believe us, please search the web

Q. Why do we add ice to the fresh juice?
A. Pure sugar cane juice is very sweet. Adding some ice makes the drink more refreshing (especially in summer) and slightly dilutes the drink to make it more pleasant to drink. You will find it tastes better with some ice.

Q. Why is lemon, lime or orange added?
A. A squeeze of lemon, lime or orange juice is traditionally added to fresh sugar cane juice to give it a pleasant taste and to slow down the oxidation process. Citrus fruit contains ascorbic acid (vitamin C) which helps stabilise cane juice and slow down the oxidation process. Oxidation is what turns apples brown when you cut them in half. So adding a squeeze of lemon, lime or orange gives it more flavour and makes the nutrients last longer so you can take it home to drink.

Q. How long will my freshly pressed cane juice last?
A. We recommend drinking your fresh cane juice within 10 minutes of pressing to ensure you receive the maximum nutrients in the juice. Natural enzymes and nutrients quickly break down once they have been extracted from the cane stalk. If you want to take a few drinks home, then make sure they go straight into the fridge as soon as possible. It should be fine to drink within 24 hours, however you may need to stir it before drinking.

Q. I notice that the colour of fresh cane juice can sometimes be green, yellow, pinkish or even dark brown.
A. Your eyes aren't playing a trick on you. We source different varieties of cane depending on the availability, so you may find the colour of your drink will vary at times. While all sugar cane looks the same from a distance there are considerable differences in the colour of the stalks between different varieties. This influences the colour of the juice. It is nothing to worry about as all cane is cleaned and sealed in food-grade plastic bags before shipped to various retail outlets.

Q. Why do we use slow moving rollers to press the juice and not high speed juicers?
A. Rollers physically press the stalks to release the juice. This process helps retain more nutrients in the final juice compared with using high speed juicing machines that cut the cane with blades. High speed juicers spin at very high revolutions and create friction and heat at the point of contact. Heat destroys many of the sensitive nutrients like vitamin C, enzymes, etc. Therefore, using slow moving rollers in our Cool Cane machines results in more nutrients in the cane juice.
